We sold over 130 tickets for the event, and over 270 individuals were nominated for an award.

There were a total of 16 different award categories. For each award, a number of individuals, projects or courses were shortlisted and a winner selected. Details of the shortlists and winners can be found below and a copy of the programme from the evening can be seen here, which details all nominees. This award was presented to the school who have had the most winners of the bi-weekly Student Union competitions. Six competitions were hosted across the year in total, and competitions have consisted of activities such as building the tallest tower, making the best paper aeroplane and constructing a jigsaw in the fastest time.

Over 50 students participated across the year, and the majority of the winners of the competitions were from the Mechanical Engineering School.

The winner of this award was the School of Mechanical Engineering.

The second award of the evening was the EEC Support Staff Member of the Year Award.

This award aims to recognise staff from various areas, including the Talent Team, Student Success Coaches, Technicians, Facilities and Timetabling, the Library, Students’ Union and administrative and management teams (such as Associate Heads of School for Student Experience) who have supported students in EEC.

We recognise that working full-time alongside completing a qualification can require a lot of dedication. We awarded the EEC Apprentice of the Year award to an individual who has showcased strong time management skills, balancing their work and studies simultaneously, whilst also receiving positive feedback from University and work-based staff on their contributions. This student may also have gone above and beyond to further their student experience, such as by participating in extra-curricular activity both inside or outside of their course.

This award was given to an individual who shows understanding of, and commitment to, new and current practice relating to EDI, embedding it at the heart of their delivery structures whilst also sharing resources and insight with others. They may have gone above and beyond to support staff or students in the Faculty, continuously championing the views of others, supporting healthy campus culture and reflecting equitable practice in their day-to-day activity.

Putting theory into practice is an important part of the student learning journey, and many students in EEC chose to take on a placement as part of their course in order to enhance their employability.

The Best Student Placement Contribution Award was awarded to a student who demonstrated high levels of commitment to their placement. They may have received excellent feedback on their approach to work, or the products they have created. This student may also have been praised for their skills and knowledge of their subject, whilst also attending all necessary check in meetings, ensuring they deliver their assignment/s to a high quality.

Many students in EEC possess strong leadership qualities, demonstrated throughout their University experience and beyond. This award recognised a student in a leadership position, or someone who demonstrated qualities of an aspiring, future leader. Their impact could be measured on the project or work they contributed to, the successfulness of their leadership such as through inspiring others, as well as any changes they implemented or results gained.

This award was gifted to a member of staff who, for reasons personal to students, is one of the main people that individuals will remember when reflecting on their time at Coventry. It may be that they went above and beyond to support a student, or their jokes or delivery style in the classroom were particularly memorable.

The Teaching Excellence Award was presented to an individual whose teaching materials, and wider course syllabus, was creative, interactive and encouraged students’ personal and professional development. The winner of this award may have been praised by students for their delivery style, or unique and inspiring teaching methods- they are also someone who is open to student feedback and new ways of learning. They may host additional activities as part of their delivery, such as guest speakers or industry visits, and they are an individual who ensures that all students feel comfortable and confident in the classroom.

Throughout their academic journey, students take on various projects, such as their dissertation, module projects or extra-curricular commitments (including community projects or support). This award recognised the success of a Student Project that had been undertaken by one, or multiple, EEC students, either within University or beyond.

Student Reps are vital to ensuring that the student voice is heard, and acted upon, across the Faculty. This award was given to the Reps who have attended all necessary meetings, ensured action logs are kept up to date and have supported additional events and activity hosted by the Faculty or the Students’ Union, going above and beyond in their role.

One EEC Rep of the Year Award was given for each of the four schools across the faculty. The winners of this award were:

  • Hibah Saddal for the School of Computing, Mathematics and Data Science
  • Sruthi Ananth for the School of Energy, Construction and Environment
  • Henry Etuk for the School of Future Transport Engineering
  • Elvis George for the School of Mechanical Engineering

This award was given to the society who had the largest impact on EEC students during the academic year. This could be evidenced through the number of events and activities they led on, the amount of attendees at events, any student feedback or testimonies received from those events or how they worked on creating a society legacy in EEC.

The EEC Academic Staff Member of the Year was awarded to an individual who fostered a welcoming and approachable environment for students. They actively support extra-curricular initiatives and engagement, helping students to find and develop their communities, and encourage open debate and discussion in classes. They may have been praised for their communication skills,or have gone above and beyond to support students in different ways, such as helping them to build industry connections or being flexible with tutorial opportunities.

The EEC Postgraduate Student of the Year Award is a coveted award that was given to a student who had shown great commitment to making the most of their student experience. Course of the Year was awarded to a programme that encompassed inspirational and high quality teaching content, delivered by motivational and supportive staff. Students may have experienced industry visits or extra-curricular trips, had the chance to apply theory in real-life practical situations through meaningful assignments, or utilised EEC equipment such as simulators or labs as part of their curriculum. Students feedback is listened to and acted upon on this course, and students recognise the employability skills and knowledge gained from the course, which has helped them to prepare for their career.
