About the event

Coventry University and Coventry University Students’ Union invite students, staff and members of the local community to a joint screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing: a powerful, evidence-led 50-minute film about the climate and nature crisis in the UK.

This is your opportunity to hear from leading UK experts, understand why climate and nature matter to every part of life, and explore the positive, practical action that can still make a difference.

What is The People’s Emergency Briefing?

The People’s Emergency Briefing is a 50-minute documentary (starts at 12:30pm) based on the National Emergency Briefing, held in Westminster in November 2025. The film explores the implications of climate change on:

  • Health and wellbeing

  • Food systems and food security

  • The economy and jobs

  • National security

  • Nature, communities and future generations

It is honest about the scale of the challenge, but it also looks at the solutions and the action needed from government, organisations and communities.

Why attend?

Whether you are already interested in sustainability or want to learn more about how climate change could affect life in the UK, this screening offers a clear, accessible introduction, come along to:

  • Hear the latest evidence from leading experts.

  • Understand how climate and nature breakdown connect to everyday life.

  • Explore practical ways individuals, communities, organisations and decision-makers can respond.

  • Meet others who want to be part of positive change in Coventry.

  • Take time to reflect, ask questions and consider what action could look like locally.

You do not need any previous knowledge of climate change or sustainability, just curiosity and a willingness to engage.

Free to attend — we do ask that attendees book even though it's a free event, so we can safely track capacity in our venue.

Who can attend?

This is a free event open to all, whether you are studying or work at Coventry University, or live or work in the local area. We are keen to get as many people involved in this important topic!

Please note the film is rated 15 by the British Board of Film Classification for infrequent strong language, so attendees must be aged 16 or over.
