Autumn has arrived! The main fun of Freshers’ is done, and the reality of the year ahead is sinking in. Maybe it’s left you feeling a bit lost? Lonely? Overwhelmed? Or just unsure how you are supposed to balance all your new academic responsibilities with creating time for that self-care that everyone says is so important.

Your SU are here to help with a roundup of some of the upcoming and regular things going on, making it easier than ever to take a break from the books and find a sense of belonging here in Coventry.

Get Crafty with Your SU

Did you know? Every Wednesday afternoon, Your SU hosts an arts and crafts wellbeing workshop!

The sessions are just two hours long - making it really easy to schedule in some time for yourself. The sessions are open to anyone - from beginner to expert - and will encourage you to discover and develop creative skills, meet new friends, and have a lot of  fun along the way!

Why not book on to the next session on Wednesday 23rd October? In honour of black history month, we will be trying our hand at Batik, using wax to help dye designs onto clothes and materials - or maybe the 30th October’s offering of Halloween-themed lantern making is more for you?

These arts and craft workshops will take place every Wednesday 2pm-4pm at SU reception, so keep an eye on the SU events pages and book on to whatever takes your fancy!

Fancy Dress Bingo Night

If an evening out is more your thing, your sabbatical officers are hosting their first monthly wellbeing event on Wednesday 23rd October, 6pm-9pm in the Food Court, on the first floor the Hub. Book your free ticket and join us for a fancy dress bingo night, packed with entertainment, refreshments, and plenty of fun! There is a prize for the best fancy dress costume, as well as exciting things to be won at the bingo - not to mention pizza and snacks for everybody!

Are you interested but unable to make this date? Keep an eye on the SU events pages as your officers are hoping to host similar wellbeing events every month.

Sports, Societies and Communities

Looking for a more regular commitment? Your SU provides so many opportunities for you to get yourself out there and make friends with likeminded people. Whether that’s discovering a shared interest through joining a society, being part of a team by taking up a sport, or finding belonging in one of our SU communities, there is a whole world of opportunities to help you find your place in Coventry. It’s all waiting for you, so why not get involved?

Look After Yourself

Whilst feeling like you belong, building a good support network, and taking time away from studying to do the things you love are all key when it comes to maintaining good wellbeing – we know that sometimes you may need a bit of extra help. If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression or low mood that are not going away regardless of what you do, and they’re stopping you from getting on with your day-to-day life – it may be time to talk. Your SU advice service and University Health and Wellbeing services are always here for you.

Also, don’t forget to download the SafeZone app! It will give you access to a wellbeing button that will link you directly to mental health support services that are available exactly at the time and place you need them.
