Adam, former Badminton President, shares how his time at Coventry helped prepare him for a thrilling career path and shape his life today.
I started Coventry University in 2017 as a Sport Scholar studying Sport Marketing whilst playing badminton on the European circuit. Additionally, I played for BV Bamberg in Germany and in my second year I played for ES2B in France. Playing badminton at Coventry University was great fun which allowed me to play BUCS matches every Wednesday, whilst training with the team a few times a week.
Within my second I became President of the Coventry University Badminton managing over 100 members. This gave me a leadership role which I fully enjoyed and strived in. I would encourage anyone to take up a role with any sport or leisure society. Another highlight was being able to represent Coventry in the BUCS championships in Sheffield for three successive years. My favourite event playing for Coventry was Varsity. I love the rivalry between Coventry and Warwick!
Since leaving Coventry I do not play badminton anymore, however I have continued to coach national junior players. I have helped a few juniors win national championship age group titles since graduating in 2020. Currently, I coach one junior player who is consistently being invited for England trials.
Career-wise I graduated Coventry with a first class honours degree in Sport Marketing in 2020. I volunteered within CUSU to help run the social media pages of the Festival of Running which helped me secure a social media internship role. Following my next job was at Premier League Football Club, Crystal Palace where I was an Partnerships executive. I have recently joined Surrey Cricket Club at The Kia Oval as an Partnership Executive where I look after the current partners and acquire potential new sponsors.
