Find out what has been happening with Sports at Coventry University this semester.
Semester One Wrapped
With semester one now over and before everyone takes a well-deserved rest over the Christmas/winter break, we want to take a look back and see what has been happening with sports at Coventry University. From BUCS Wednesdays to club training, trips and competitions, our clubs have been up to a lot. Take a look at some of our achievements this semester.
This semester, we've had 1014 students join a sports club with the top 5 biggest clubs being:
1. Men's Football |
89 Members |
2. Karting |
83 Members |
3. Mountaineering |
80 Members |
4. Badminton |

5. Archery |

While these clubs may be the biggest, some clubs have had significant growth in memberships, with 14 clubs exceeding their member numbers from last year and some clubs doubling their members!
1. Swimming |

2. Gaelic Football |
96% Growth |
3. Tennis |
61% Growth |
4. Archery |
54% Growth |
5. Dance |
31% Growth |
This semester, we have also seen two clubs, Darts and Ultimate Frisbee, adopted and a brand new club, Kabaddi, set up. Expanding our total number of sports clubs to 32 and offering a wide range of sporting activities for students across the main Coventry Campus and CU Coventry.
We also set up our brand new Running Group with the help of the Athletics Club and some dedicated student leaders. This offers students a free and safe way to keep fit and running in Coventry and a great way to meet new people on campus. The group is open to people of all abilities, so it is a great place for beginners to get more confident running and stay active.
We have had lots of activity this semester, ranging from BUCS Wednesdays to Mountaineering trips, Jiu-Jitsu tournaments and more. In total there were 136 BUCS fixtures across 10 weeks and over 20 non-BUCS competitions or trips.
This semester has also seen success for multiple teams, with Men's 1s Football, Men's & Women's 1s Badminton and Men's 1s Volleyball teams all making it to the third round of their cups. Good luck to them; everyone at Sport Coventry is looking forward to seeing them in the final.
With all this sport taking place, it was important to showcase this and promote our clubs here at Coventry Univeristy. That's why we livestreamed over 2900 minutes of sport and had over 12300 views on our YouTube channel. Make sure you tune in next semester and catch one of our streams.
Hopefully, all our sports club members will have a well-deserved and pleasant rest over the Christmas break and come back ready and excited to get back to sports.
