Community Officer, Odudu Umo-Odiong Accountability Report

This report is a summary of the work your Community Officer has done so far in their tenure. They will be answering questions and explaining their work during the upcoming Officer Accountability Panel. You can book your free space for the Officer Accountability Panel.

Manifesto 1:

Celebrating Diverse Voices and Cultural Expressions. The aims are below:

  • Pop up stands at different locations at least once every two weeks (interchanging dates with pop up stands for point for feedback gathering on community related ideas/issues.
  • Supporting cels in delivering their proactive activities.

Progress Updates:

  • The deliverables are in progress. I have done pop up stalls in CU Scarborough on 3rd & 4th October 2024. I am sending an email to the timetabling team for the remainder of the year for locations which include CU Coventry and main Campus. Also, in talks with the Reps team to figure out how to feed into the pop-up stall plan that they already have in place. Pop up stands will hold in CULC on 30th October 2024 (this is pending approval of my staff lead). I have gathered relevant feedback from the pop-up stalls so far.
  • Supported the various cels including Global Majority for Black History Month (organising a panel talk), LGBTQIA+ in bidding for funding for the gender expression fund; also, currently planning Disability History Month. Looking forward to International Women’s Day and International Festival for the Women and International Communities respectively.

Manifesto 2:

Supporting Students’ Participation in Social Change. The aims are below:

  • Pop up stands at different schools at least once every two weeks for feedback gathering and promotion of social change information/initiatives.
  • Social Change campaign workshops with guest speakers (at least two (civic engagement) workshops each semester) to encourage student participation in social change.
  • Host 2 UN Model Events with students (1 per semester)
  • Trips to UN and other Social Change Organisations

Progress Updates:

  • The deliverables are in progress. I have done pop up stalls in CU Scarborough on 3rd & 4th October 2024.   • I have actively supported the SU’s participation in the NUS’ No Guarantor’s Campaign.
  • Planning towards the fist Model UN event and Social Change workshops in November 2024.
  • Still in talks with the relevant department of the SU to organise trips to other locations including the UN.

Manifesto 3:

Promoting Inclusive Support Systems. The aims are below:

  1. Organise one Communities Party in December approx.
  2. Host one Communities dinner (semester 2)
  3. Promoting Your SU events (and societies) at various pop-up stands already being hosted as part of manifesto point 1 and 2.
  4. Career Workshops.
  5. Deliver a wellbeing event monthly, in collaboration with the other ftos and ptos.

Progress Updates:

  1. Deliverables 1) is still in progress.
  2. Deliverable 2) is still in progress as well.
  3. Deliverable 3) is still in progress. However, the progress so far is like those in Manifesto Aims 1 & 2. I also led a stall at the Frank Whittle Building on 18th October 2024 to achieve this deliverable.
  4. Deliverable 4) is in progress. Presently corresponding with the Talent team to deliver this point.
  5. Deliverable 5) is progressing positively. I have collaborated with the Part Time Officers

Other duties and activities:

  • Led trips to places such as Oxford and IKEA Nottingham.
  • Reached out to the members of Parliament representing our various campuses to arrange a meeting in support of the NUS’ No Guarantor’s Campaign; and successfully arranged a meeting with Zarah Sultana on the National Lobby Day (23rd October 2024).
