About The Competition Invisible Disabilities Training
Stick figure icons representing a wheelchair user, woman and man, above them text reads: Not every disability is visible. Surrounding them are 14 different campaign awareness ribbons

Olivia Aston

Children and Young People's Nursing, 2nd Year

This design enhances the disabilities which are classed as hidden. With there being growing lists of disabilities which individuals live with daily, and living with a hidden disability myself for 11 years, I understand the struggle of not being identified as disabled due to not having a wheelchair or equipment visible to suggest that I have a disability.

I tried to identify all of the colours and ribbons which associate to the conditions which also allows to educate other individuals and raise further awareness

Panel's comments

We loved the breadth of disabilities considered and how Olivia was able to draw on their own experience in creating the design.

Overall the Panel felt this made a strong poster for education or awareness of invisible disabilities but wouldn't work so well as signage where space may be limited and it would need to rely more on the viewer's innate knowledge.
