The Union has been working alongside Coventry University Group and our elected officers since summer 2025 to acquire the running and operations of Sport Coventry on campus in Coventry.

Now positioned as ‘Your Sport’, students and Your Students’ Union will drive a vision of wide ranging, inclusive and ethical sporting and physical activities for all – led most importantly, by students.

Your Sport. Your Opportunity.

Your Sport will oversee three pillars of operations; Gyms and facilities, Sports Clubs, and Social Sport.

Gyms and facilities

This includes the running of Your Sport (previous called the Sports and Recreation Centre) on Whitefriars Street which is a two-floor purpose-built facility with two sports halls, a studio, a fully fitted gym, a strength and conditioning suite, and physiotherapy clinic.

Also included in Westwood Sports Ground, an 11-pitch multi-purpose sports ground which hosts a range of Coventry University Sports Clubs and external sporting events.

Students, staff and members of the public will be able to enjoy access to both of these facilities with a number of memberships available.

Sports Clubs

Your Sport will now support the direct operations of 30+ sports clubs representing Coventry University helping them to compete at British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions, as well as non-competitivity.

Students will be able to join all of our sports clubs with information available online or at several activities and sports fairs across each semester.

Social Sport

New for 2025/26, Social Sport is a regular programme supporting recreational sport for students regardless of their experience needed. Simply turn up and play with fun and friendly inter-mural leagues each semester with the chance to represent your college or school or enter with friends, as well as access to one-off events and activities on campus.

What work has been done already to improve sport and fitness at Coventry?

  • Developed a new-look reputable brand that aligns with Your Students’ Union and appeals to our wide-ranging audiences.
  • Five-figure investment into a new leisure management software to better support our facilities and our members.
  • Launched a student-led recreational programme called Social Sport – where you tell us what activities you want to do
  • Re-positioned a new 2025-28 Sport and Active Lifestyle Strategy to deliver a wide range of sporting and physical activities to improve the student experience, and encourage, develop and support students across the Coventry University Group
  • Created external revenue streams to fund sports facilities keeping membership prices down for students
  • Worked alongside elected Student Sports Officer and communities to grow participation and engagement.

A new-look for sport at Coventry

Due to be installed at the start of April, new-look signage and branding will be fitted at Your Sport in the Alison Gingell building, with plans to further fit new signage on location at Westwood – bringing both facilities under one ownership.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll also hear from Your Students’ Union Sports Officer 2025/26 Prince Otu, Head of Sport Rob Eddon, Head of Student Experience and Belonging Lauren Osgood and Chief Executive Officer John Abell as we sat down to hear them talk about what this move means for sport and students.

Students will also be able to have their say on kit options for Coventry University Sports Clubs, as the Students’ Union and official kit provider Akuma bring a number of options for clubs and committee members to vote and pick their favourite options.

Staff at Your Sport will also be in a new branded uniforms also provided by Akuma, alongside a new feel for the yoursu.org introducing a new ‘Sport and Fitness’ webpage.

This will include information regarding memberships, facilities, sports clubs and opportunities for all to get involved in.

Rob Eddon, Head of Sport at Your Students’ Union, said: “We’re looking to build greater awareness around sport — not just for the student sporting community, but for the non‑sporting community as well. Being part of the Students’ Union allows for a greater student voice in the activities they take part in, and greater representation — not just within sports clubs, but across all sporting activity, whether that’s social sport, recreational sport, or using the gym."

Prince Otu, Coventry University Students’ Union Sports Officer 2025/2026, said: “The SU has brought a lot to sport, especially because we’re the closest to students. We get to hear what students want — what kind of activities they’re looking for, what sport events they’d like to see.”
