Find out what this years Sport Club of the Year have been up to and why they won the award.
Sports Awards Success
We recently hosted our annual Sports Awards event, where members from all sports clubs at Coventry Univeristy come together to celebrate each other and to recognise the successes we have had and the effort people have put in this year.
Whilst all of the awards are important and celebrate clubs and individuals, there is one award held in high regard. The Sports Club of the Year Award celebrates the club that has had great participation in competition and recreational sports, promoted the 'belonging' aspect of their membership, introduced new members to the sport, and remained financially sound.
This year we had a total of six nominees as many clubs have succeeded this year. However, there was only one club that this could be awarded to this year, which is Karting.

British Universities Karting Championships
Our karting club have been competing in BUKC, this year entering an impressive eight teams of drivers, the most out of any other univeristy competing ever. The club has had amazing success in the competition, with the A and B teams sitting 5th and 6th, respectively, in the Premier class out of 54 teams. In the intermediate class, the club's D team hold the second position out of 54 teams. With multiple race wins, the club has shown what they are capable of this year.

Coventry Univeristy Karting Championship
Outside of their regular competition races for BUKC, the club has continued to host their own Coventry Championship, dubbed CUKC, allowing for an intermural style competition between all of their members.

With the majority of their members this year being first years and people new to the sport, they have put in a massive effort to help them get involved and feel part of the club, building up their racing ability as they go. Hosting multiple social events throughout the year and even hosting tuition events to help teach new drivers.
