If you're thinking about running in the Students’ Union elections, getting started is much simpler than you might expect. Whether you’ve been involved with the SU before or you’re hearing about elections for the first time, this guide will take you through the basics of becoming a candidate.

Nominating yourself only takes a few minutes, and we’ve even created a short video to walk you through the process. Here’s the quick version of what you need to do.

How to Nominate Yourself

  1. Go to yoursu.org and sign in using the person icon (top right). Select Student Login and use your university email and password.
  2. If asked, update your preferences and choose your correct study location (Coventry, London, or Scarborough).
  3. Open the Elections page when nominations are live, or visit yoursu.org/elections.
  4. Read the Role Details to understand eligibility and what each role involves.
  5. Choose Nominate Yourself and select the role you want to run for.
  6. Enter your details (name, email, phone) and say if you're running as part of a slate.
  7. Read and agree to the terms and conditions, then click Save.
  8. Submit your nomination by selecting Nominate under the role.
  9. Upload your required items:
    • A clear head-and-shoulders photo
    • A manifesto (maximum 1,000 words, including at least 5 points)
    • Optional: a short slogan (up to 10 words)
  10. Save your uploads and use Preview Manifesto to see what your profile will look like. You can edit anything until the nomination deadline.
  11. The Elections Team will review your nomination and contact you when your status changes.
