SHAG week—or 'Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Week'—is a week dedicated to helping you learn more about sex, sexual health, and sexual wellbeing. Unfortunately, these topics are often seen as taboo and are seldom talked about because of this, however they're just as important as physical, mental, and emotional health—and by not talking about it, many people are missing out on crucial information that will help keep their sex lives safe, happy, and healthy. It's super important to have (and encourage others to have) more open, honest, and useful conversations about all things sex, and that's where SHAG week comes in.

During SHAG week, Your Students' Union will be hosting a variety of events and pop-up stalls, and we'll be giving away plenty of useful info, resources, and freebies, too; read on to see what's happening!

What's On

Here are some of the informative and interesting things you'll be able to find around the Coventry campus throughout SHAG week. Check them out!

The OddPod (Coventry Main Campus, Monday 10th November)

The OddBalls Foundation is a charity founded in 2015 to raise awareness of and conversation about testicular cancer, and to help make a difference to testicular health worldwide!

Join our visiting OddBalls Ambassadors to learn more about testicular cancer, how to perform a self-check (plus the opportunity to do so in private), and ways for anyone with balls to take proative steps for their health.

Discussion - Sexual Health and Equality (Square One, The Hub - Tuesday 11th November, 4pm-6pm)

We'll also be partnering up with BHA for Equality, the LGBT Foundation, and Coventry Public Health to give you the chance to find out more about—and have your say on—the sexual health services available in Coventry.

This special event is students-only, and it's a great opportunity to feed back how much you know about (and how supported you feel by) local sexual health services, what you think is useful, and what needs improving. Free snacks and soft drinks will also be provided(!), so drop by to network with likeminded people and embrace the opportunity to have your voice heard on these crucial services throughout the local area.

'Let's Talk SHAG!' (SU Welcome Area, Floor 1, The Hub - Wednesday 12th November, 12pm-2pm)

As part of Your SU's Wellbeing Wednesdays, join us and a variety of different organizations and services to learn more, get support, and perhaps a free pen or two at our 'Let's Talk SHAG' event: with stalls in attendance such as the University Medical Center, Coventry's local Sexual Health Services, and more, take some time to gain new knowledge in a relaxed, informal environment. There will also be spaces available for confidential conversations, should you need one.

And More...

Keep an eye out around campus... we'll be handing out free condoms and plenty of super useful info and resources across Thursday and Friday (the 13th and 14th) - feel free to come and say hello! If you're not studying at one of our Coventry-based campuses (or you simply want to learn more), don't worry: your Students' Union's website has a wide variety of useful webpages dedicated to your wellbeing, including an in-depth section on sexual health and a searchable wellbeing support hub that has links to loads of other help, advice, resources and organizations near you. Why not check it out?

The time to start talking about sexual health is now: so get stuck in this SHAG week and enjoy the ride!
