The University has excluded some students due to outstanding tuition fee debts. If this has happened to you, here’s what it means, and what you can do about it.
When you enrolled, you agreed to pay tuition fees on time. The University Group regulations include a strict schedule of payment.
What does “excluded” mean?
- Your attendance won’t be registered in classes.
- You’re blocked from many University IT systems.
- You lose access to the library and sports facilities.
- You will not be able to submit assessments.
- You cannot re-enrol or graduate.
These restrictions will stay in place until you pay the money you owe.
Before the University excludes you because of unpaid fees, it will block your account.
This means:
- You cannot use the Library.
- You cannot re-enrol or graduate.
You can still attend classes and submit assessments if you’re blocked. However, if you still don’t pay after a few weeks, the block will change to exclusion.
You can access support from Student Wellbeing while you are blocked or excluded. Find details of their services and how to contact them below:
I want to pay, how do I do that?
The quickest way to pay is online via Convera. Please follow this link to pay.
I cannot pay. What help can I get?
Your Students’ Union or the University cannot help pay your tuition fees, and the University will not agree to an extended deadline or an instalment plan different to that on their website.
If you cannot pay your tuition fees, please contact the Finance team as soon as possible by completing the Finance Support Form. They will prioritise inquiries from students who have been excluded. Your Students' Union cannot contact Finance for you.
If you are struggling to pay essential living costs because of something unexpected, University support may be available after you pay your tuition fees. Your Students’ Union may be able to offer limited emergency food support. If you need this, please complete the Food Hardship Form.
Will this affect my visa?
If you are an international student and have been excluded:
- The University may report you to UKVI (the Home Office).
- The University may stop sponsoring your visa within 10 working days.
- This could mean needing to leave the UK at very short notice.
If your visa sponsorship has been stopped, you should make plans to leave the UK as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about your visa, please contact reg.isc@coventry.ac.uk. Your Students’ Union cannot give visa or immigration advice.
What does this mean for my assessments?
If you are excluded, you can’t submit work. Once you have paid your fees and have access to University systems, you can apply for a deferral using the student portal. Your Advice Service can guide you on how to do this.
I feel very upset. Where can I get help?
Being excluded can be scary and stressful. If you are not safe right now, please call 999 or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department.
