I'm Reece O'Regan and I'm excited to start my role as president , and look forward to meeting you all!

Thank you to everyone who voted in the spring elections, and I look forward to welcoming our new committee after the next by-elections by the end of September. Currently I am the only sitting committee member so no further introductions are to be made yet.
I'd also like to extend a warm welcome to all our new members (especially first years!). 🀝

Membership

To become a member, buy the £2.00 membership (the £5.00 one is for associates and not for current students). I've reduced the price this year to the minimal amount to make being a member more accessible.
You'll need the £3.00 sports and societies subscription to let you join a society, this can also be bought on the student union website.

So what's the plan?

This upcoming year we're ramping up society activity:

  • πŸš€ Launching a large collaborative project πŸš€-  We're at the planning stage of starting a project everyone in the society can be apart of across the academic year. We're looking into making rockets or drones- we need university confirmation for this due to additional risks in these projects, so stay updated!
  •  πŸ–₯️ Hosting weekly aircraft simulation sessions πŸ–₯️- Every year weekly, or fortnightly, simulator session events have been hosted. Here you can pilot aircraft on realistic simulators. You control the aircraft with all cockpit controls at your fingertips, the seats have haptic feedback, and navigation data is displayed on a separate screen.
  • πŸŽ‰ Competitions πŸŽ‰- We'll host smaller competitions between society members including challenging engineering situations, here you can receive certificates by the society for completing challenges- building engineering skills. We'll also look into inter-organisation competitions between other universities or national competitions; these will require more planning and may not start until the next year.
  • 🍻 Social Nights πŸ»- Some nights we will have meetings at local pubs or host game nights. These are to get to know other members better and to have fun.

I'll be working with the next committee to get these endeavours rolling.

Look out for updates for upcoming events and stay tuned!
