Three Sport Coventry teams top their league to earn promotion in BUCS regional leagues.
The end of the 23/24 BUCS season has come with final league fixtures taking place on Wednesday 20th March. Our 26 BUCS teams have played a combined 256 fixtures between them, all proudly representing Sport Coventry.
Leading the pack in performance this year was our Women's Volleyball first team, which finished top of their league and only suffered one defeat in league play. The women's volleyball team also capped off the season with a silver medal in the BUCS Regional Conference Cup earlier this month. The first place standing will see the Team Phoenix performance program team return to Division 1 Midlands Volleyball for the 24/25 season, a goal they set out to achieve at the start of the season.
Also finishing atop their respective leagues are the Men's Football first team, and Women's Hockey first team. Men's Football 1 ended the season undefeated, with a 6-0-4 W-L-D record. The team scored 31 goals in 10 games, led by Diogo Archer (6 goals), Enoch Opayinka (4 goals) and Henry Freeman (4 goals). Joseph Baynam also led the team (and the league) with 5 assists to power the offense.
With arguably the most exciting first place standing is Women's Hockey, who won their league with a 1-goal difference over the second place team. The team did not even realize they had won their league until they were celebrating their season at their weekly social after their last game. Hear the team's thoughts on the season here:
Notable season performances also came from our Women's Tennis first team and Men's Badminton first teams. Men's Badminton lost a very close conference cup final to take home the silver medal in this year's regional tournament, whilst women's tennis bowed out of the tournament after a loss in the semi-final round. We look forward to both teams being back stronger in next year's cup runs.
Well done to all our Sport Coventry teams for completing yet another BUCS season. We are already looking forward to the 24/25 year.
