What is Black History Month?
Black History Month (BHM) in the UK has been celebrated for over 30 years, originally founded as a
movement to
recognise the contributions of people from African and Caribbean backgrounds. Now the celebration
has expanded
to include the history, achievements, and contributions of all black people.
Black History month is recognised nationally every October and internationally across other months.
You are able
to join activities and read news across the national Black History Month pages.
The month is a time for celebration, recognition and reflection and the Students Union would like to
invite you to
engage with our programme of resources, events and knowledge. Build on your understanding of Black
History
Month, recognise key figures across history and find out about campaigns, movements, events, and how
you can get
involved.
