The holiday season is just around the corner, and while it’s a time for celebration, it can also bring financial stress. At Your Students’ Union, we’re here to help you stay on top of your finances and make the most of the festive season without breaking the bank. Check out these simple budgeting tips to start your festive finances right!

Set a Spending Limit

Before you start shopping, work out how much you can realistically afford to spend without dipping into funds you need for rent, bills, or essentials. Create a budget for gifts, food, travel, and events—then stick to it!

Track Your Expenses

Keep an eye on your spending by using budgeting apps like the Emma app. These type of apps help you see where your money is going so you can stay on track and avoid overspending.

Shop Smart with Student Discounts

Take advantage of student discounts on platforms like TOTUM, Unidays, and Student Beans. Many retailers offer festive deals, so make sure you check before buying—every little saving adds up!

Get Creative with Gifts

Save money by making thoughtful, low-cost gifts. Homemade treats, DIY decorations, or experience-based presents like a promise to cook dinner or spend a day together can mean more than something expensive.

Plan for a Financially Strong New Year

After the holidays, take a moment to review your finances. Set small, achievable goals to start saving for 2025—whether it’s building a rainy-day fund or cutting back on non-essentials.

Remember: Small Changes add up! Budgeting doesn’t mean missing out. With a bit of planning, you can enjoy the festive season and start the New Year on solid financial footing. For more tips and resources, check out Your Student Union Finance page.

If you need advice, contact Your Students' Union's Advice Service. Let’s make this holiday season one to celebrate—without the financial stress!
