We know that the societies you’re looking for might not always be active so we’ve made it really easy to rstart a new society and jump straight into hosting the events, activities and development you want!

All of our societies have a group of committee members who make decisions in leading the society, manage their societies finances and develop the society so that it leaves a legacy and continues building across the years.


What benefits do you get from being on a society committee?

Leading a society at Your Students' Union is an extremely rewarding experience for any student. These voluntary roles equip you with a whole range of new skills such as:

Get Started

If you lke the sound of helping to run a campus society, there are a few things you need to get started:

  • An idea - what's the focus of your society? What do you want to do?
  • A committee - societies need at least three students to run them, filling the following roles:
    • President: Leads the society, managing the Committee and coordinating activities
    • Treasurer: Manages the society's finances and spending, liaising with the Students' Union
    • Inclusion Officer: Ensures the society is welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all
      You can have further roles in addition to this, such as a Secretary to send out regular communications to members, a Social Media Officer to manage your channels, a Welfare Officer to signpost students to support options, or something else relevant to your group.
  • To agree to the Societies Code of Conduct - this sets out the expectations and requirements of Your SU-affiliated societies, and the disciplinary process if these are not adhered to.

Once you've agreed on your idea and your roles, you can fill out the application form below to affiliate with the Students' Union. Once your application form has been reviewed, you'll be contacted by a member of the Your Students' Union team to get the ball rolling on your plans!
