Noisy Neighbours

Noise can ruin your study time and sleep. Try having a friendly chat with your neighbours first. If that doesn’t work, invest in earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones. If it’s excessive, report it to your landlord or student accommodation staff.

Mold

Mold isn’t just gross - it can affect your health. It's important to ventilate your room often and use a dehumidifier. Report mold to your landlord, as it’s their responsibility to fix it. Keep records and photos for proof.

Rent Increases

Sudden rent hikes can wreck your budget. Review your contract to see if rent increases are allowed. If not, negotiate with your landlord or seek advice from Your Students' Union or campus housing services.

Maintenance Delays

Leaky taps, broken heaters, and slow repairs are frustrating. Report issues as soon as they happen and follow up regularly. If repairs are delayed for too long, know your rights and seek advice on how to escalate it.

Getting Your Deposit Back

Landlords can sometimes unfairly withhold your deposit. Be sure to take photos of the property when moving in and out. Use a deposit protection scheme and, if necessary, challenge any unfair deductions.
