On 31st December 2024, most biometric residence permits (BRPs) will expire as they are being transitioned to a new eVisa. This expiration does not impact your immigration status, however, after this date, you’ll need to replace your BRP with an e-Visa, which is free and straightforward.

You can view a video produced by the Home Office about the new eVisa here.

What Do I Need to Do Now?

  1. Create a UKVI Account to Access Your e-Visa

Your e-Visa will replace your BRP and serve as proof of your immigration status in the UK.

       2. Before you start to create a UKVI account, you will need:

  • Access to a smartphone
  • A mobile phone number
  • An email address
  • Your BRP card or valid passport with your BRP number or visa application number

After Setting Up Your e-Visa

Once you’ve created your UKVI account and accessed your e-Visa, keep your BRP card. Although it will expire, it may still be useful for future applications or personal records.
