Welcome to the Acoustic Music Society!
We’re all about producing great music here and having as much fun as possible while we’re doing it! If you’re a musician or a singer looking to make a name for yourself at university, this is a fantastic platform! If you’re looking forward to collaborating on music projects with others, we do this every single week with our society. If you’re interested in music and just want to meet great people and have a laugh, join us for socials and nights out.
We always love to welcome new members, so hopefully we'll see you soon!
Aims and Objectives:
Our aim as a society and a committee is to facilitate a safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment, where our fellow musical peers can showcase their musical ability. We create the environment that enables development of young upcoming musicians.
Our society: the place we envision, the place the university will talk about, and the place that nurtures musical diversity.
AMS began at Coventry in 2014 with our first president, James McInnes. In the beginning, members played live music outside Quids Inn on a Tuesday evening, as well as attending various open mic nights across Coventry. Our society continued to remain a small event each week, until 2018, when we became regulars at Drapers (now the Metropolis Lounge) and the society grew immensely in popularity.
Between 2018 and 2020, the society continued to grow with more members joining and the society attending more events. We also began to collaborate with other societies like the Gaming Collective and Christian Union. COVID interrupted the progress of the society, but only briefly, with 2021 seeing a huge boom in popularity. The society outgrew its beginnings and we moved to our now regular location in the basement of Ivy House. We secured events across new locations including Square One and were even nominated for society of the year. This was followed up with another nomination for society of the year in 2022, and our first big award of Best Music and Performance Society. We can't wait for the year ahead and hope to grow even bigger in the years to come.
If you want to attend our events regularly, you'll need to buy a membership. This gives you access to our Tuesday socials in Ivy, as well as any other events we might put on. It also makes sure you're the first to know about all things AMS. Our memberships are only £10 and they really help out the society too!
Please purchase membership here: https://www.yoursu.org/activities/societies/join/6053/
Make sure to follow the Instagram for all the updates from our society, as well as highlights of every event we attend. It's the best place to keep up with all things AMS, maybe you'll even see yourself on it! This is also our main form of social media, so check back regularly to make sure you don't miss out.
Our Discord server is the best place to connect with our members, available through the Coventry University discord hub. This is a platform to showcase anything you might not want to share at our socials (as well as stuff that might take several takes!), as well as collaborating with other members of the society on any projects you might have.
Instagram - This is our main social media platform!
Discord - The best place to reach our members!
Email - For more formal communications, check if your request falls under any of our forms before emailing.
We also have a WhatsApp group for our members, head down to one of our socials and we'll make sure to add you in!

AMS is a place for everyone who loves music! We meet up for our own open mic nights and jam sessions, as well as attending other events around Coventry, including karaoke and many more!
Whether you're just getting in to music or are a seasoned veteran, you'll find a massive range of people just like you. Many of us are more than willing to lend a hand if you need one, or collaborate on a project you've been working on, or even just join a song you want to perform.
Make sure to check out our weekly meetings, 7-10pm in Ivy House for the classic AMS open mic night. This is a great place to meet our members and perform any music you like, or even just to watch other people perform.
We also host many other one-off events, collaborating with several other societies including Christian Union and several of the Music and Performance societies. We've also held events with Phoenix Radio, the SU and many other external partners around coventry. We're always up for new collaborations, so feel free to reach out if you want to collaborate with us on any kind of event. If you need music for your event, we are the people you need.
Key past events
We're really proud to support a range of CUSU communities, including LGBT+, BAME and Student Media, and the wider Coventry & West Midlands. We're also part of The Gaming Collective, which is a group of societies puts on Gaming & Karaoke nights for charity at Square One in the Hub - to date we've helped raise over £1000 for a variety of charities!
Our online community is as big as the one we have in person, where we share musical performances, collaborate with each other and stay connected. We share highlights of all our events on our Instagram, and now have a Discord server too, the main place for our members to communicate.
We have a very rich and diverse society, and we'd love for you to be a part of it. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
President - James Wells
Hi everyone! I'm James, and I'll be your AMS president this year. This is my 3rd year of being part of AMS in person and second year on the committee. If you were here last year, you'd remember me as inclusions officer, running round and presenting your weekly socials.
I'm really looking forward to the year, and I'm sure we can make AMS an amazing place for all of you. Love you all and I'll see you soon!
Vice President - Poppy Adams
I'm Poppy and I'm this years Vice President for AMS
I joined the society earlier this year and it's allowed me to enjoy performing more and has supported me in ways I could not have imagined.
AMS is loud, fun and unpredictable and I'm looking forward to a year full of music <3
Inclusions Officer - Myles King
Hello, I'm Myles, and I'm the inclusions officer for AMS 2023-2024. Having been the longest active member of the society, with previous experience as President, my time with AMS has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since I joined, it's allowed me to relish the opportunity to perform songs I've written and engage with new and exciting people. The camaraderie and support within AMS are extended to anyone who wishes to listen and be part of this vibrant society. AMS is a loud and fun community, and as the current inclusions officer, I'm eagerly looking forward to more of that, as well as meeting those who are interested, whether new or returning members.
Treasurer & Events Manager - Zuzia Weolowska
Hi! I'm Zuzanna and this year, I'll be AMS's treasurer and events manager. This is my second year as a member of this society and my first year as part of its committee.
Last year, AMS has been one of the best things about studying at Coventry University for me and I hope to help make it at least as good again this academic year to share with you all the joy of meeting to perform live and to listen to our favourite music :)
Communications Officer - Jacob Newey
Hello, I'm Jacob and I'm the communications
officer for AMS 2023-2024. I joined the society a year and a half ago and it's allowed me to enjoy performing songs | wrote and meet new and interesting people. They have supported me as it would for anyone who would listen and attend this incredible society.
AMS is a loud and fun society and I'm looking
forward to more of that and to meet the
people who are interested new or returning.
The following people aren't part of our committee but have left a lasting impression on our society. We'd like to use this space to recognise the work they've done for us.
Jamie is no longer a member, but was a member of AMS for 3 years. We want to make a special metion for him as the creator of the AMS Discord server, a job that he took on at our request due to the committee's inability to understand technology (an ongoing issue!). Jamie is an amazing member of the society not just for the things he does, but the type of person he is. AMS wouldn't be what it is without him.
Alex runs some of our social media, a project she picked up last year. She works incredibly hard for us, and deserves a lot of credit for the quality of the content we produce on socials. Alex is invaluable to our success and we can't thank her enough.
