The Borough Council has allocated £10,000 to assist community-based organisations in providing community spaces where local residents can come to keep warm during the winter months.

Requests from informal groups of residents will be considered if a recognised not for profit organisation is willing to hold funds on behalf of the project.

For those living in or near Scarborough, many organisations are hosting free activities this winter. This includes coffee mornings, Bingo, Quiz nights with refreshments, Lunch drop-ins, Supper Clubs and arts and crafts activities in a warm space. To find out more, go here.

There is even a pay as you feel café for those who want to contribute.

Newby and Scalby Library

The library offer a warm space Monday – Saturday and a variety of events, including craft club, scrabble club, mak jong, art group and drop ins. Go to here for a calendar of events.

North Yorkshire Local Assistance fund

This fund supports vulnerable adults to move into or remain in the community, and to help families under pressure stay together. Awards are made in-kind, for example by supplying household goods and basic necessities.

Yorkshire Energy Doctor

The Yorkshire Energy Doctor is an independent energy advice organisation providing advocacy, advice, and support to consumers around energy bills. They also work with other public and voluntary sector organisations, providing training on fuel poverty and energy awareness and taking referrals to help others to be safe, warm and well. You can self-refer for a free 121 session providing advice on a host of topics relating to energy bills and usage including (but not limited to):

  • Understanding your energy bills and prices
  • Payment options
  • Financial support that is available to help with energy costs
  • Dealing with energy debts
  • Helping to sort out ongoing problems with an energy supplier or billing
  • Improving the energy efficiency of your home
