About the event

This July, we're teaming up with Coventry Pride to bring you a free screening of the vibrant and powerful film Rafiki (2018)!

Set in Kenya and directed by the incredible Wanuri Kahiu, Rafiki tells the heartfelt story of Kena and Ziki—two young women whose friendship blossoms into love, despite their families being political rivals and society pushing back.

Inspired by Monica Arac de Nyeko’s award-winning short story Jambula Tree, Rafiki is more than just a love story—it’s a bold, beautiful celebration of courage, hope, and authenticity in the face of tradition and adversity.

So grab your friends and your popcorn, and join us for an unforgettable evening of film, pride, and community at Square One!

The film screening starts at 7pm, with a short discussion about the film from 6pm. Please head down to the bar early to grab a drink and secure your seat.
