As a society, we are devastated by the tragic death of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey. Brianna was found in a park in Cheshire, after facing bullying for being transgender, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The loss of Brianna is reflective of attitudes of the British press and Government towards trans people, and the handling of her murder case by police attempts to gloss over hate crimes. We hold the issue of women’s safety close to our hearts; our children are not statistics, Brianna was a child, and we must not let this stand.
Your safety is of the utmost importance in gatherings such as vigils – please wrap up warm, bring food and water, a friend or group, and please be respectful of the nature of the gathering, to honour the life of Brianna Ghey.
As a society we will be honouring a minute silence out of respect, and below is a list of vigils that may be local to you.
