Manifesto 1:
Celebrating Diverse Voices and Cultural Expressions. The aims are below:
- Pop up stands at different locations at least once every two weeks (interchanging dates with pop up stands for point for feedback gathering on community related ideas/issues.
- Supporting cels in delivering their proactive activities.
Progress Updates (Green)
- This manifesto project has progressed quite well since the last semester. I have continued to deliver pop-up stalls across different campuses to gather feedback on community related ideas/issues (18 pop up stalls as at today). The feedback gathered have been shared with the relevant teams within the Union.
- I have also spoken to students in their classrooms to build interest(s) in communities related discussions. Also, I have supported our various community engagement leads (CELs) in delivering proactive initiatives/activities including Black History Month, International Week, LGBTQIA+ History Month, and Disability History Month. I am eagerly anticipating International Women’s Day.
Manifesto 2:
Supporting Students’ Participation in Social Change. The aims are below:
- Pop up stands at different schools at least once every two weeks for feedback gathering and promotion of social change information/initiatives.
- Social Change campaign workshops with guest speakers (at least two (civic engagement) workshops each semester) to encourage student participation in social change.
- Host 2 UN Model Events with students (1 per semester)
- Trips to UN and other Social Change Organisations
Progress Updates (Green)
- I have continued to have conversations with students at pop-up stalls geared towards encouraging participation in social change. As a result of these conversations, I have organised/promoted a Campaign competition, a Public Speaking competition (on social change), Model United Nations event, and written an article on how to initiate campaign proposals.
- I have initiated discussions with organisations including Amnesty International UK to deliver workshops to students – AI will deliver a workshop on 10 March 2025.
- I led on the NUS housing campaign which has had positive impact(s) as students will neither be required to pay months’ worth of rent upfront nor enter tenancy contracts with landlords more than six months in advance.
- I have continued to support dialogue on social issues and facilitate trips to change organisations/events.
Manifesto 3:
Promoting Inclusive Support Systems. The aims are below:
- Organise one Communities Party in December approx.
- Host one Communities dinner (semester 2)
- Promoting Your SU events (and societies) at various pop-up stands already being hosted as part of manifesto point 1 and 2.
- Career Workshops.
- Deliver a wellbeing event monthly, in collaboration with the other ftos and ptos.
Progress Updates (Green)
- I hosted two communities' parties on 6th and 13th December 2024, and I am supporting with the Activities Awards dinner where Communities will be significantly featured.
- I have continued to promote yoursu.org and events to students at the various pop-up stalls.
- I hosted a Train the Trainer session in collaboration with the Talent Team for student leaders within SU across campuses, and I am working on a collaboration with Coventry University Social Enterprise (CUSE - now under Phoenix+) to train/enlighten students on the entrepreneurial skills, opportunities, workshops, funding and support available within/outside the University on 11th March 2025.
- I have continued to support the delivery of monthly well-being events in collaboration with other officers - I hosted a karaoke session on 30th January 2025.
Other duties and activities:
- I have worked in collaboration with other officers to push for microwaves for students in areas such as the Hub.
- I have supported other officers with their events including the Onam festival, now that you’re enrolled, societies carnival, et cetera.
