Need a hand with what to pack for University? Our full-time officer team have produced a list of ten must-haves for new students!
Our Officer team were all new to university life once upon a time, and are the first to admit that even they weren't fully prepared for what to pack! They have come up with a list of essentials which may get you started when it comes to packing for your new adventure or for that shopping trip when you first arrive...
Travel mug/Reusable water bottles
I really enjoy having my travel mug and a reusable water bottle with me, as they've been quite effective in helping me save money. Whether I'm having a coffee or tea, having a travel mug and taking it along to the library or classes has proven to be really practical. There are also water fountains across campus, so a reusable water bottle can come in really handy.
A portable mobile charger
Creating checklists on my phone can be a really quick and helpful way to stay organised at university. The necessity of using my phone for various tasks like making payments and checklist can unfortunately mean my phone battery runs down. Consequently, I always make sure to have a charger with me - portable or regular. Libraries and classrooms usually have available sockets for charging, and the Hub has a number of charging ports.
Umbrella and Jackets
When it comes to staying prepared for different weather conditions, I usually opt for carrying an umbrella instead of a jacket. However, on windy days, a jacket might be the more sensible choice. It's always a good idea to have one on hand, just in case.
Mattress protector
Almost all mattresses that you find in accommodation have been used before. It is a smart move to invest in a mattress protector, as first of all, it makes your bed more hygienic. It also safeguards against spills, helping you secure your accommodation deposit.
Laptop cover
A laptop cover is essential for university life. It protects your device from damage and adds a touch of personal style. It’s a smart investment to keep your laptop from the demands of campus life.
Notebooks and stationery
The beauty of notebooks and colourful stationary may seem like a thing of the past, however when it comes to studying they contribute a major importance in this must have list. In a fast paced world where our minds are subjected to digital distractions, notebooks provide people with more active learning and definitely allows users to create more personalised note taking. The tactile sensations given by books and stationaries can't replicate by any digital forms of note making system!
Slippers
Slippers, an item which everyone's grandma loves! Even though they may not be the most fashionable item, a cheap pair of slippers is a must-have for university life. In shared accommodation, kitchen floors can get sticky and gross, so you'll want to protect your feet. Plus, they're perfect for wearing after a tiring day or when your room heater isn't working correctly!
Unique kitchen supplies
You do not need to have a large collection of kitchen supplies, but make sure to make them unique. Every student has the experience of having their mug or spoon misplaced somewhere. Having unique kitchen supplies, you ensure that you will find your items in no time!
First Aid Kit
Be prepared for minor cuts, headaches, or allergies with a basic first aid kit that includes bandages, pain relievers, and any necessary medications. By having a well-stocked first aid kit in your dorm, backpack or study area means you don’t have to hunt for supplies when you need it. You're better equipped to handle minor health concerns and focus on enjoying your university experience to the fullest.
Travel Sized Toiletries
Travel-sized toiletries are the ultimate game-changers for weekend trips if you are planning for a weekend trip after a busy week. These mini versions of your favourite essentials are compact, lightweight, and fit easily into your bag. No more lugging around bulky bottles. You can choose from shampoo to toothpaste, they're convenient and prevent overpacking.
