This report is a summary of the work your Welfare Officer has done so far in their tenure. They will be answering questions and explaining their work during the upcoming Officer Accountability Panel. You can book your free space for the Officer Accountability Panel.

Manifesto 1:

Flexible Fee Payment Plan Implementation. The aims are below:

  • Research on other universities' payment plans
  • Data collection through WonkHE
  • Student focus groups meetings             

Progress updates (Amber)

  • Successfully contacted other SUs and FTOs, collecting data on flexible payment plans. Gathered insights from WonkHE on international student instalment payments, documenting details of 18 universities with FPP.
  • Completed student focus group meetings. SU requested university finance data on student fees to make a proposal to SMT.

Update since previous accountability panel:

Meetings held with SUs who have implemented the plan. Posted in Ideas Platform and received responses. Continuously raising the issue in SMT meetings university is now aware and may decide soon.

Manifesto 2:

Food Hardship Support. The aims are below:

  • Campus-wide support research
  • External organization engagement
  • Resource allocation assessment

Progress updates (Green)

Completed research across all three campus locations, identifying current support systems (Coventry Grocery kits + food vouchers). Findings presented to Advice staff and shared with Kyleigh, Sarah, and London team.

Update since previous accountability panel:

  • Current stock levels assessed as sufficient.
  • Informed professional and academic services in the university about Cost of Living support from SU.
  • Budget friendly recipe articles will publish soon.

Manifesto 3:

Job Portal Enhancement. The aims are below:

  • Job portal audit
  • University department collaboration
  • Job opportunity development

Progress updates (Amber)

Achieved 3000 student visits to Job portal. Secured collaborations with multiple departments including Library, Maths, and Sigma for job opportunities. Established connections with the Talent team, future lets, and catering services. Collaboration with external organisation is going on.

Manifesto 4:

  • Documentation of available scholarships
  • Information accessibility improvement as Advice service will give support to guide students

Progress updates (Green)

  • Collaboration with external organisation is going on.  
  • Been added to Trustee board as an agenda to decide how this can progress forward.

Manifesto 5:

Student Wellbeing and Engagement. The aims are below:

  • Event planning and execution of wellbeing (mental, financial, sexual) events
  • Cultural celebrations that increase engagement based on demographics

Progress updates (Amber)

  • Successfully planned monthly events in collaboration with PTOs through term end.
  • First event Successfully hosted in October with attendance of 52 actively attended students. 
  • Organized Onam Event (76 student attendees). 

Update since previous accountability panel:

  • SHAG Week and destresstival event in collaboration with Rachel is in planned and forms submitted waiting for dates to host.
  • Students Idea platform successfully implemented. 
  • Working on Virtual Volunteering project in collaboration with west midlands police and Pheonix plus to reduce scams.

Other duties and activity:

  • Regular monitoring and updating of Documents and reports in University Meetings
  • Articles on Reflective topics.
  • Cross-departmental collaboration with Comms, FTOs and PTOs and meetings.
  • Being in Recruitment panel of Governors, Board of Trustee and SU staffs.
  • Chaired Union Affairs Meeting and Deputy Chair for Board of Trustee Meetings.
  • Being in Education committee, Academic Board, Governors Board, Welfare and wellbeing committee, Coventry Executive meetings.
  • Review CEO’s annual report and provide insight.
